A journey to the moon: “நிலவுக்கு ஒரு பயணம்”
Success is where preparations and opportunities meet. As our nation was preparing to mark a historic landmark of a great initiative in the history of lunar exploration, students from all corners of the nation exhibited captivating enthusiasm and curiosity to delve deeper into Chandrayaan-3 and its ambitious mission.In this concern of giving them an insight on journey of Indian Lunar exploration and Chandrayaan-3, Open Space foundation organized an online session “ Nilavukku oru Payanam'' by the renowned scientist Dr.T.V.Venkateswaran, Scientist F, Vignyan Prasar, DST Gov of India. The program was conducted on July 13,2023 from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm in the google meet platform. Around 100 participants from various institutions including school students, graduates and teachers actively attended the session.
During the captivating online session on the journey to the moon, Dr. T.V.Venkateswaran provided a detailed insight into India's remarkable achievements in space exploration. He began by introducing the historical background and objectives of the Chandrayaan missions, emphasizing India's pursuit of lunar exploration and its global significance.As the session progressed, Dr.T.V.V took the audience on a captivating voyage through the journey of Chandrayaan-1, India's maiden lunar probe, and the complexities encountered during Chandrayaan-2, the nation's second lunar mission. The scientist celebrated the remarkable scientific discoveries made during these missions, such as the identification of water molecules on the Moon's surface, advancements in lunar mapping, and the discovery of minerals.
In addition to his interesting narrative of India's lunar missions, Dr. T.V.V provided a comprehensive and detailed illustration of the key components involved in lunar exploration during Chandrayaan-3. Through clear and engaging explanations, he elucidated the roles of the flyby, orbiter, lander, and rover in the mission, allowing students to grasp how the intricate details of the Moon would be studied. The detailed presentation enabled students to envision the coordinated efforts of these components, working in unison to enhance our understanding of the Moon.
Furthermore, Dr. T.V.Venkateswaran delved into the intricate details of the rocket launch process.He provided insights into the trajectory tracing during the various mission phases, including Earth Centric, Lunar Transfer, Moon Centric, and Lunar Polar Orbit.Moreover, Dr. T.V.V shed light on the payloads of Chandrayaan-1, 2, and 3. The spacecraft was equipped with cutting-edge scientific instruments and experiments to conduct in-situ studies on the Moon's surface.
The online session concluded with an interactive question and answers segment, where students and participants eagerly sought further insights from the scientist. His ability to present complex concepts in simple scientific terms made the session exceptionally engaging and educational for school students.On the whole, the session left the audience inspired and hopeful for the future of India's space exploration.
