In an exhilarating two-day event, MMR Public School in Kollam played host to a thrilling Telescope Construction & Model Rocket Making workshop organized by Open Space Foundation and CSTERC in collaboration with "Ohaan's". From April 15th to 16th, 2024, students from various classes gathered to embark on an unforgettable journey into the realms of astronomy and aerospace engineering.

Unveiling the Universe:

The workshop kicked off with a warm welcome from Mr. Sreejith of "Ohaan's", who set the stage for an exciting exploration of the cosmos. Leading the charge were Mr. Bharathkumar Velusamy and Mr. Ramanesh from Open Space Foundation, whose passion for astronomy and space science ignited the students' curiosity and enthusiasm.

Constructing Telescopes:

On the first day of the workshop, students were introduced to the fascinating world of telescopes and given the opportunity to construct their own. Armed with homemade materials and guided by expert instructors, students delved into the intricacies of telescope construction, learning valuable skills and gaining insight into the wonders of observational astronomy.

Building Rockets:

As the workshop entered its second day, students eagerly turned their attention to the heavens above as they embarked on the exhilarating task of building model rockets. Using solid propellant engines and harnessing the power of modern technology, students measured the thrust required to lift their rockets using the innovative Open Rocket software.

Launching into the Unknown:

With their rockets assembled and anticipation running high, students gathered eagerly as the clock struck 12:30 PM on April 16th. With a collective sense of excitement, they watched as their creations were ignited and soared into the sky, tracing mesmerizing trajectories against the backdrop of the heavens above.

Inspiring Tomorrow's Explorers:

As the Telescope Construction & Model Rocket Making workshop drew to a close, students departed with a newfound sense of wonder and possibility. Inspired by their experiences, they are now equipped with the knowledge, skills, and passion needed to pursue further exploration of the cosmos and beyond.

As we reflect on the success of the workshop, let us continue to nurture the spirit of scientific inquiry and exploration among our youth. Through hands-on learning and immersive experiences, we can inspire the next generation of astronomers, engineers, and explorers to reach for the stars and unlock the mysteries of the universe.
