Telescope Tales ! Introduction to Astronomy and Telescope orientation program at Dr. NGP Arts and Science College, Coimbatore

Through the lens of a telescope, we capture not just light, but the essence of the stars. Open Space Foundation organized an enriching Telescope and Astronomy Orientation Workshop at Dr. N.G.P Arts and Science College, Coimbatore. The event was crafted to provide students with a deeper understanding of telescopes, celestial optics and the boundless universe. The DST Star College scheme played an instrumental role in coordinating the program in an effective way.

The workshop began with an overview of both astronomy and telescopes, delving into the fundamental workings, components, various types, and extensive applications. The program intended to endow a deep and distinct understating about the telescopes, making them more accessible to the aspiring astronomers of tomorrow.

During the session, the operational mechanism and the critical aspect of calibration were intensively discussed, emphasizing the importance of understanding the mechanics and fine-tuning of telescopes for optimal observations. This segment proved to be an indispensable part of the workshop, offering crucial insights into the functioning of these astronomical instruments.

The highlight of the workshop was the hands-on demo session, where the students were given the opportunity to handle telescopes firsthand. The workshop culminated in a solar observation through the telescope. Witnessing the sun in such intricate detail through the telescope, left the students awe-inspired. It was a moment of astonishment and wonder, where the students were able to visualize sunspots and rejoiced the observing our nearest star through the telescope for the first time.

This program, enriched with an introduction to both astronomy and telescopes, would not have been possible without the enthusiastic participation of the students and the support of DST Star college scheme.
