Dear colleagues / Well Wishers,
Greetings from Open Space Foundation, Hope you are doing well and in Good health. We are up with a new and exciting project, which we hope is a great way to democratise science education. The project aims to spread the idea and usage of Foldscope and to train students in operating foldscope.
Foldscope was created with a vision to solve an accessibility problem in science… What began as a simple idea has grown into a company that provides low-cost tools to communities around the world!
Foldscope is the ultra-affordable paper microscope. It was designed to be portable and durable, while performing on par with conventional research microscopes (140X magnification and 2 micron resolution). Foldscope will help us and our students to explore the Microorganisms in and around us.
The significance of this project lies in the current situation of health and development across the globe. We are facing continuous health concerns such as Covoid-19 (CoronaVirus), Nipha, Ebola, Flu virus which affects the overall development of a nation. Anti- microbial Resistance is an increasingly serious threat to global public health that requires action across all government sectors and society. When we consider the R&D sector, we haven’t discovered any new antibiotics in the past 20 years, which is a serious concern. Pulling in more amateur scientists is a feasible solution to effectively address this public concern.
As a Science communication organization, it is our responsibility to aware and train students and the public to pursue studies in these areas to collectively find solutions to such social issues. As a first step we have launched the first phase of Project Foldscope, where we aim to distribute and train students in using Foldscope and to encourage research.
We wish to purchase 100 pieces of Foldscope for training purposes. One piece of Foldscope costs Rs.280. Total cost of this project is around Rs.28,000. As a voluntary youth organization we can't afford this budget, thus we are trying for crowdfunding. If you can donate a minimum amount that will help us to meet the budget which has the potential to bring up the future scientists.
Kindly support us to make the project successful.
