"Exploring the Cosmos: A Journey of Discovery"

In an endeavor to ignite the flames of curiosity and foster a deeper understanding of the cosmos, the Grand 38 Telescopes Construction Workshop, in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Science Forum, was held at Shanmuga College of Engineering, Tiruchengode. Over the course of two enriching days, this workshop brought together space enthusiasts, educators, and professors from diverse districts, all united by their passion for space science and telescope craftsmanship.

Day One: Unveiling the Wonders of the Night Sky

The first day of the workshop was dedicated to introducing attendees to the art of stargazing and unveiling the mysteries of the night sky. The sessions commenced with an illuminating exploration of star maps, allowing participants to decode the celestial tapestry that adorns our nocturnal canvas. Using the powerful tool of Stellarium, attendees learned to navigate the night sky with confidence, uncovering constellations, stars, and planets.

The theoretical aspects of telescopes were also thoroughly covered, equipping participants with the knowledge needed to comprehend the intricacies of telescope construction. This day served as a solid foundation for the hands-on work that lay ahead.

Day Two: Crafting Telescopes, Building Dreams

On the second day, the workshop delved into the practicalities of telescope construction. Participants eagerly engaged in telescope measurements, a crucial step in crafting precision instruments for observing the heavens. The intricacies of optical tube and mount construction were unveiled, as attendees took their first steps toward bringing telescopes to life.

Solar Spotlight: Observing Sunspots

The culmination of the workshop was marked by a spectacular sunspot observation. Participants gathered under the brilliant sun to witness the dynamic phenomena of sunspots and to delve into discussions about their creation and evolution over the solar cycle. This hands-on experience brought the immense power and beauty of our nearest star, the Sun, closer to all those in attendance.
