A remarkable event unfolded at Government Corporation High School, CIT Nagar, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, as open space foundation collaborated with Ellowhale Education. This collaborative effort aimed to impart knowledge of space sciences and telescopes to the students of Government Corporation High School. The event, comprising a telescope construction workshop and National Science Day celebration, provided a platform for students to engage in hands-on learning and exploration.

Telescope Construction Workshop

The event commenced with a telescope construction workshop, where students were introduced to the principles of optics, engineering, and the design of telescopes. Divided into two phases, the workshop spanned the morning to afternoon and afternoon to evening sessions. During the first phase, students received a comprehensive introduction to science and astronomy, marking their initial exposure to these fields. An engaging talk elucidated the significance of science in our lives, followed by a discussion on the history of telescopes and their construction.

Students were then guided through the assembly process, learning about the various components of a telescope, including lenses, tubes, focusers, diagonals, and eyepieces. Armed with newfound knowledge, students eagerly embarked on constructing their telescopes, starting with the optical assembly of the objective lens and progressing to the focuser and mount. The hands-on experience not only instilled a sense of accomplishment but also deepened their understanding of telescope functionality.

By the end of the workshop, two telescopes had been successfully constructed, one for middle school students and another for high school students. The collaborative effort of CSTERC, Ellowhale Education, and the enthusiastic participation of over 100 students resulted in the creation of functional telescopes, marking a significant milestone in their educational journey.

National Science Day Celebration

Following the telescope construction workshop, participants had the opportunity to engage with various science exhibits and experiments showcased as part of the National Science Day celebration. Students proudly presented their projects, demonstrating their understanding of scientific concepts and principles. From interactive experiments to innovative exhibits, the science day exhibition exemplified the students' creativity and passion for learning.

The day concluded on a wholesome note, brimming with learning, building, and growth. Participants departed with a newfound appreciation for science and astronomy, inspired by their hands-on experience and enriched by the collaborative efforts of open space foundation, Ellowhale Education, and Government Corporation High School.

The telescope construction workshop and National Science Day celebration at Government Corporation High School served as a testament to the transformative power of education and collaboration. By providing students with opportunities for hands-on learning and exploration, the event ignited their curiosity and passion for science. As we reflect on the success of this endeavor, we are reminded of the importance of fostering a culture of scientific inquiry and innovation in our educational institutions.

We extend our sincere appreciation to all participants, organizers, and supporters who contributed to the success of this event. Special thanks to Ellowhale Education for their invaluable partnership and Government Corporation High School for hosting the event. Together, we continue to inspire and empower the next generation of scientists, engineers, and innovators, paving the way for a brighter future.
